Katy Perry 'Dark Horse' Copyright Lawsuit: Christian Rappers Flame Claim Pop Star is Using Their Beat for 'Witchcraft'

Someone is coming at Katy Perry like a "Dark Horse..." with a lawsuit. Christian rap group Flame claims Perry ripped off their track "Joyful Noise" for her third Prism single and they're seeking damages and want Perry to stop using their beats for the promotion of witchcraft and paganism.

According to STLToday.com, Flame are seeking damages from Perry, guest artist Juicy J, songwriters Dr. Luke and Max Martin and Capitol Records for copyright infringement, stating that the two songs sound eerily similar.

Reports of the similarities between "Dark Horse" and "Joyful Noise" have been floating around the Internet for a while, with blog Sounds Just Like featuring a popular pose comparing the two tracks. After seeing the blog post, Flame decided to take legal action.

The question involved stems from the unmistakable trappy synth beat in "Dark Horse," with a high-pitched melody that isn't wholly dissimilar from the music in "Joyful Noise."

Listen to the two songs below, and compare:

More than just the synth line, Flame are asking Perry to stop using their music in order to promote her secular agenda, claiming "Joyful Noise" has been "irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in 'Dark Horse.'"

Perry has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

However, the singer is unlikely to be pushing forth an agenda full of witchcraft. Before she was famous and under her birth name Katy Hudson, Perry released a Christian rock album Katy Hudson in 2001. She's also recently sung about her relationship with religion in the Prism song "By the Grace of God."
