Destructo has been bridging the gap between hip-hop and house music for the past few years, working with rappers like YG, Ty Dolla $ign and ILoveMakonnen over the past three years. Now he links up with producer partner in crime, Wax Motif, Pusha T and Starrah on his new single "Catching Plays."
The song starts with Pusha T's instantly recognizable voice and flow, rapping right his wheelhouse about drug dealing. A synth-heavy beat comes in to assist as Starrah raps the hook before the track gets into the sturdy g-house that has become a constant for Destructo over the past few years. It reverts back into a hip-hop beat for Pusha T's second verse and then drops into the second heavy house element that has an added robotic bass sound added.
King Push is as potent as ever with his rhymes. As he says in the second verse, "Papi, call me bandito, I'm Pablito, woo / The future is now, provin' it now / '17 Coupein' it now / Runnin' rings 'round you n*ggas, you Jupiter now, yeah."
This isn't a major progression from Destructo, but a sure-fire party starter with Pusha T adding two verses and Starrah rapping a catchy hook, "whole squad out here catching plays."
"Honored to be able to drop a new jam with the whole squad Pusha T, Starrah and the big homie Wax Motif," Destructo told Complex. "The legend King Push always delivers the goods and I am super excited to work with the amazing Starrah. Her talent is intense. Much more to come on the EP. Wait and see."
"Catching Plays" will appear on Destructo's upcoming EP. No word on when that will drop yet. Stream the song below and purchase it here.
