Jennifer Lopez just released her new album A.K.A. last week, but she didn't do it alone. A longtime fan of collaborators, JLo teamed up with some of the biggest rappers in the game for her record, including T.I., Iggy Azalea and Pitbull, and now she's speaking out about the writing and collaboration process, and one team-up that almost didn't even happen.
According to a track-by-track walkthrough with The Source, Lopez had to make a late night call to T.I. in order to get him in on the album's first song and title track.
Though everyone though they were done working on the album, Lopez wanted to call in one more favor to put the cherry on top of A.K.A. "We were finishing the album, in the mastering stages. We were sitting there and at this point I know I'm calling the album A.K.A. I know I had this song, we were listening to A.K.A. the mix is sounding great, and I go, "It's just not finished, it's not done. It needs something, it needs somebody. It needs a thing," she said before saying she then wanted to call T.I. into the studio.
Luckily, the "Live Your Life" rapper was right around the corner and in the studio three minutes later.
And just because Lopez happens to be one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, it doesn't mean she doesn't get nervous about asking a rapper to be on her album.
"I was super nervous because I didn't know how people were going to react, and it was so spur of the moment, spontaneous. I said, 'If you don't like it, it's fine. I don't care, you can leave and no hard feelings, but if you like it, I'd like you to be on it,"' Lopez said. "He said 'OK,' and I played it for him and we're listening and I'm watching him, and he goes 'Do you want me to do it right now?' I go 'YEAH! YES! Right now!' and he went in and he did the rest is history."
