Jewel's hands, they are her own yet again! Word has it that the country singer, who rose to fame with her debut album Pieces of You back in 1995, is divorcing from her bull riding-hubby Ty Murray after a 16-year relationship.
The announcement was made just yesterday (July 2) via Jewel's blog in a statement that labels Murray as her "husband, friend and partner of 16 years." The reason for the sudden announcement, Jewel explained in the post, is so that fans hear about the awaiting separation directly from her.
She posts, "Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together. We have no desire to damage ourselves and each other in the process ... while we learn to redraw ourselves in whatever new shape we find as separate people who are still striving to be the best versions of ourselves – as humans and as parents."
The two have a son named Kase, born in 2011.
The country singer's post continued to explain that the two heavily desire growth, something they wanted in their relationship as well, yet as time went on, turned out to be too difficult to keep, saying it "became tragically and undeniably stifled as a couple, and we believe we can find it again in setting each other free."
After announcing the divorce, Jewel thanked her fans for their support, stating she's "grateful for the acceptance and compassion."
As for Murray, his only words so far have been in the form of a joint statement, which goes as follows:
"Our dedication to our son is unwavering and we are both committed to being the best partners in raising our son. Due to the spirit in which we have gone about this separation, we trust we can remain dear friends who hold each other in high esteem, which is so important to us as parents, as we wish only what is best for our son."
