Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers recently visited Koko at the Gorilla Foundation in Woodside, California. During his visit, the bassist held an unusual jam session with the intelligent animal.
In various photos posted by Flea on his Instagram account, Koko can be seen playing with his bass guitar. Other pictures also showed the two embracing one another.
In a video shared on YouTube, Flea noted that he will never forget the day he spent time with Koko, the gorilla capable of communicating using sign language and understanding about 2,000 spoken English words, People reported. "This is just the greatest thing that could ever happen," he said. "This is the day I will never forget in my life." According to the Gorilla Foundation, Koko also had a great time with Flea. In a statement, the organization said that the gorilla had fun playing with the artist's guitar. "One of Koko's favorite musicians, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers came to visit," the foundation stated. "Koko was thrilled by the mellow sounds and a jamming session followed with Koko strumming on Flea's bass!"
Aside from gaining the unique experience of interacting with the special animal, Flea's visit to Koko is also meant to increase public support and awareness to the Gorilla Foundation, which focuses on conservation efforts and carrying out interspecies communication research with apes. To show his support to the foundation, Flea even shared on Instagram the link to a fundraising page where people can buy clothes made by the non-profit organization.
