For the 15th year anniversary of Aaliyah's death, Beyoncé shared a video of her and the late R&B singer co-hosting the pre-show program for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Aside from Beyoncé, other artists who worked closely with Aaliyah such as Timbaland and Missy Elliot also shared their own tributes to the singer.
As noted by ET Online, back in 2000, Beyoncé was still a member of Destiny's Child while Aaliyah was enjoying the success of her second studio album One in a Million. On Sept. 7 of that year, the "Love on Top" singer hosted the red carpet pre-show event for the awards show with Aaliyah.
In the video shared by Beyoncé on her Instagram account, she and the 21-year-old singer were at the red carpet talking about what they were looking forward to seeing at the awards show. Aaliyah said she wanted to watch D'Angelo's performance.
The event served as the last appearance of Aaliyah at the MTV VMAs. On Aug. 25, 2001, after shooting the music video for her single "Rock the Boat," she died in a plane crash in the Bahamas. Aside from Beyoncé, Timbaland, Aaliyah's former producer, also paid tribute to the late singer through an Instagram photo. Missy Elliot also showed her respect and admiration for the singer on her social media account. She noted that even though Aaliyah has been dead for 15 years, the music she left behind still continues to inspire a new generation of fans.
