According to NME, Drake announced today that he is dropping out of England's Wireless Festival, where he was scheduled to headline on July 4th and 5th in Birmingham and London, respectively. In a statement issued through Wireless, the Toronto rapper explained and apologized for his extremely last-minute cancellation.
The statement reads:
"To my beloved fans, it truly breaks my heart that I won't be able to perform as planned at Wireless and Roskilde this weekend. I got sick a few days ago and although I am on my way to bouncing back, my doctors have made it clear that I am not physically fit to fly or deliver the performance my fans expect and deserve from me. I will be focused on resting for a quick recovery. I have the best fans in the world and I can't wait to come back to make more incredible memories together."
According to The Guardian, "refunds for day tickets can be requested via ticket sellers."
Drake's headlining slots will be replaced by two different artists. In Birmingham, openers Rudimental will be playing an extended set with as of yet unannounced special guests to make up for the rapper's absence, while Kanye West will be taking over the slot on Saturday in London, in addition to his headlining performances on Friday in London and on Sunday in Birmingham. Bruno Mars is also scheduled to headline, with the festival's other prominent acts including Pharrell Williams, Outkast, and Wiz Khalifa.
Drake is also scheduled to host ESPN's ESPY Awards on July 8th, though there is no word yet as to whether or not he'll be well enough to host by that time.
