Paul van Dyk has clarified that the racist tweet that appeared on his Twitter account on Thursday was posted by a hacker. Aside from the German EDM DJ's social media account, his website too was targeted in the cyber-attack.
Yesterday afternoon, followers of the "Another Way" artist on Twitter saw a very offensive post on his account. The tweet was already deleted shortly after it was shared but TMZ was able to capture a screenshot of it.
"RULE #1: No black people allowed at concerts from this point on. No exceptions," the tweet read according to the entertainment news site.
After it was posted, Paul van Dyk, whose real name is Matthias Paul, clarified that he did not compose the tweet. He noted that his Twitter page got hacked and his team is currently investigating the matter.
A representative of the DJ also released a statement to clarify that Paul is not a racist.
"The messages posted were deeply offensive and contrary to everything Paul has stood for in his decades-long career," the spokesperson said according to Daily Mail.
Aside from his Twitter account, Paul's official website also got hacked by a group known as Team Alex. Before the site was restored by the DJ's team, TMZ noted that the hackers deleted its content and even posted credit card numbers that were allegedly stolen.
One of Paul's followers on Twitter even told the DJ that the hackers also shared his bank account information. The user noted that she has already reported the matter to Twitter.
