Famed Australian entertainer Rolf Harris has been imprisoned for sexually assaulting four girls and young women. He will be jailed for five years and nine months.
The 84-year-old's crimes occurred during the years of 1968 and 1986 with girls between the ages of 7 or 8-years-old to 19-years-old, but the allegation in which the trial was centered on was of the artist's daughter's friend, with whom he reportedly "groomed and molested from the age of 13 until she was 19," as Billboard states.
Harris was convicted on June 30 of 12 counts of indecent assault. The 8-week-long trial took place at London's Southwark Crown Court.
During the said trial, jurors accused Harris of using his celebrity to abuse his victims, alleging the television personality has a "Jekyll and Hyde" type of character. The judge, Mr Justice Sweeney, told Harris that he "showed no remorse." He added, "You took advantage of the trust placed in you through celebrity status... Your reputation lies in ruins and you have nobody to blame but yourself."
Sweeney then touched on the immense age gap between Harris and his victims, which only lends itself to the fact that he "clearly got a thrill from committing some of these offences."
The entertainer rose to fame on British television and was known mainly for hosting a number of children's and art-focused shows. He also had a number of chart toppers over the years including "Two Little Boys," "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport" and "Sun Arise."
Harris has since been stripped of multiple awards and honors following his conviction, including his Bafta Fellowship and his honorary degree from the University of East London.
