Hi-Five, Russell Neal: Singer In Custody After Wife Found Dead From Stabbing, Charged With Murder

Russell Neal, the singer from the 1990's R&B outfit Hi-Five is currently in custody after his wife, 24-year-old Catherine Martinez, was found dead in the couple's Houston, Texas, townhome. Reports state that Martinez died of multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to her head.

Neal allegedly walked into the Harris County Sheriff's Office on the night of Wednesday, July 2, and told the authorities that his wife was dead inside their home. The 40-year-old mentioned that the two had a intense argument just before her death.

According to the reports, authorities had to force themselves into the home at the Cedar Creek Townhomes because the door was locked. Once inside, they discovered the body of Neal's wife on the living room floor. While the death appeared to have been recent, an autopsy will clarify all of the necessary details.

TMZ reports that Neal is now being charged with murder.

Neal and Martinez have two children who both live in the townhome; however, law enforcement say there were no witnesses at the time of the murder. The former Hi-Five singer is currently in custody on a $100,000 bond.

While out of the spotlight for quite some time, Hi-Five gained famed in the early 90's after releasing their self-titled debut album, which generated hits such as "I Can't Wait Another Minute" and "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)." The band's subsequent album would deliver the chart-climbing "She's Playing Hard To Get" and "Quality Time."

The recent murder is not the first bit of unfortunate news to hit Hi-Five members. Back in 2007, the group's founding member Tony Thompson passed away from a drug overdose.
