Wouldn't You Like to Play with Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra?

Be it her El Sistema-inspired OrchKids or her more adult-oriented initiatives like the BSO Academy and Rusty Musicians, freshly extended Balitmore Symphony Orchestra maestra Marin Alsop is changing the definition of what an orchestra means to its community...for all ages.

And once again, Alsop is inviting amateur musicians to join the members of her BSO on stage to rehearse and perform some of her favorite repertoire.

This year's iteration--which will no doubt be equally lauded by Classicalite friend Tim Smith of the Baltimore Sun--takes place Wednesday, September 18 at Baltimore's splendid Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

Responding to increased demand from seasons past, Rusty Musicians 2013 will be broken down into two groups:

Group One: 6:30-7:20 p.m.

Selections from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suites Nos. 1 & 2:
Suite 1, Mvt. I. "Morning Mood"
Suite 1, Mvt. IV. "Hall of the Mountain King"
Suite 2, Mvt. I. "Ingrid's Lament"
Suite 2, Mvt. III. "Peer Gynt's Homeward Journey"

Group Two: 7:50-8:40 p.m.

Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy

Yeah, it's just that simple.

"It was a life-changing experience, very humbling. To be sitting right there with the professionals, you can't ask for anything more," said 2012 Rusty Musician participant Keyone Swaine.

Likewise, Dr. Harry Kaplan remarked: "It was absolutely thrilling to be playing on that stage and have a sound like that surrounding you. And if I got lost, the [BSO players] were right there to carry me back."
