Ariana Grande Cancels Roots Philly 4th of July Jam, Spends Holiday With Sick Grandfather In Florida

Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson and Aloe Blacc gave electrifying performances at the Roots' Philly 4th of July Jam, but there was one songbird missing from the festivities.

According to Billboard, pop sensation Ariana Grande was slated to perform at The Roots' annual free concert Friday in Philadelphia celebrating Independence Day, but her representative said she had to pull out because of a family emergency.

Grande took to Twitter to express her admiration towards her grandfather.

"Wish u knew how incredible he is.... humble, respectful, hardworking, polite, thoughtful, humorous, generous. an example for all gentlemen," she tweeted.

She also sent out a special tweet for her fans in New York.

"NY I'm sorry u saw less of me this trip. off to the g-parents in FL. they need me & now I gotta be there. love u & thank u for understanding," Grande wrote.

Grande has posted numerous photos of her grandfather on Instagram. She even thanked fans for their prayers and support during the difficult time.

While in New York, Grande visited the MTV studios to bring Total Request Live (TRL) back for one special Sway Calloway-hosted episode.

During the 30-minute segment, she performed her No. 1 hit "Problem" and a cover of A$AP Rocky's "F--kin' Problems."

Grande also debuted the Zedd-produced track "Break Free," which will serve as the second single off her sophomore album, "My Everything," due Aug. 25.

Ariana Grande is scheduled to perform the track at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 24.
