Marvin Gaye's son, Marvin Gaye III, is at it again with yet another lawsuit all in the name of his late father. This time he's going after Vassal Benford, producer of the upcoming Motown biopic, "Sexual Healing," who feels will tarnish his father's image.
Though official court documents have yet to be filed, Marvin Gaye's son, Gaye III, has been in contact with his lawyer in an attempt to shut down the production of the Motown special biopic, Sexual Healing, as reported by TMZ.
The film has been in production for quite some time and is being produced by Benford, who will also head the film's original score. Reportedly, Benford has already signed on several major music artists to contribute to the film's soundtrack and is confident that the film will reach its completion and release, despite any concerns from the Gaye children.
Gaye III, however, has reportedly seen portions of the film, as reported by IB Times, and is determined to bring the film's production to a halt, citing it does not accurately represent his father nor does it give a proper depiction of his latter years.
This is not the Gaye children's first legal attempt to sue in the name of their late legend father.
In 2013, the "Let's Get It On" singer's family sued against "Blurred Lines" artists, Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams for copyright infringement. According to Wall Street Journal, the children were awarded close to $7.4 million.
Just a few months ago, another copyright infringement lawsuit developed from the Gaye family against Ed Sheeran for allegedly duplicating the sound of Gaye's classic "Let's Get It On," as Time reported.
And though the 2015 lawsuit had nothing to do with soul singer's music, Gaye III set his legal sight on yet another lawsuit, this time against Empire creator Lee Daniels, claiming the concept of the hit Fox series was originally his brain child.
Though Marvin Gaye was a legend whose music catalogue is considered timeless, and still captivates the hearts and ears of many soul lovers who would love to see a biopic on his life, the Gaye children are making it very unlikely but, we will see.
