Tinder and Spotify are teaming up to add another way to filter out ways to decide which way to swipe on potential matches. Tinder will now allow users to link their profile to their Spotify account and choose their "anthem" that will appear to the public and be playable.
In addition to the anthem, users that connect their Spotify accounts allow others to see their preferences on the streaming service. It won't have blanket access to your Tinder as users will be able to choose which artists they can display on the app. Thus if you are a big muscly guy and afraid to admit you listen to k-pop all day, then go ahead and put some safer artists for the public to see.
So if you see someone with Mickey Avalon "My Dick," run away as fast as possible, unless that is what you are looking for.
It isn't surprising to see Tinder take this next step. One can already see common interests based on Facebook likes and some of those may be artists. This just hones in on a user's music tastes.
Other apps have come in to fill the niche of music matching via apps over the past few years. None have caught on like Tinder or their associated apps. This will just Tinder a stronger presence in the market and could push out the smaller competitors who don't have the market share or capitol to compete.
The new feature is available in all markets where Spotify is available.
So as Jay Z once said, "that's the anthem, get your damn hands up." Choose your anthem carefully because it is another way that you may score the right match or be judged harshly by somebody on Tinder.
