As rumors of a Jay Z / Beyoncé cheating scandal take up the headlines, it seems only apropos that Solange Knowles be the cover story for the August 2014 issue of Lucky magazine. In the newest issue, the sister of Mrs. Carter addresses the elevator-incident-seen-around-the-world, saying that she and brother in law Jay Z are "all good."
Labeling it as "that thing" in the interview, Solange explains that both her sister and Jay have moved on, stating, "What's important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that."
The Lucky interview then touches on Solange's life after the incident and her roots in music. She tells the mag about one of the first people she let hear her music: former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland. "Kelly's like a sister," she says. "When I let her hear my music, she said, 'I want you to write for my album.' That gave me a lot of confidence."
She goes on to explain that the failure of her debut studio album, Solo Star, taught her a great deal about the industry. "I was serious about my songwriting but not necessarily too gung ho on all the other elements of being an artist – the public nature of things, the lack of privacy, the feelings of always needing to be on. I also felt really misunderstood by my peers and the musical landscape that I was in." Therefore, she opted out.
Of course, one could argue that the now infamous Solange / Jay Z elevator video – leaked by TMZ back in May – has undeniably brought her back into the spotlight.
