Is John Mayer ditching his music fame for a career as a Hollywood producer? Probably not, but he did recently unveil an idea for a reality TV comedy series titled My Funny Friend.
In a report by US Weekly, the "Waiting on the World to Change" crooner dropped some details on the series idea. "Everyone thinks they have a buddy who's so hysterical, he or she should be in comedy," he says. "People nominate their friends, and they go through a series of evaluations to determine if they're actually funny or not."
Mayer has made his love of comedy known for quite some time, even going so far as to say he'd love to do stand up if he weren't a musician.
The series, similar to NBC's Last Comic Standing but for everyday folk, is particularly interesting to Mayer based on the "human-interest angle." He continues, "Think how much joy there is in seeing a friend happy!"
While it's doubtful that the ex of Katy Perry would actually leave his music behind for a career in reality television, he does admit the entertainment format is a fascination of his. "I don't even feel like it's my fault for liking it. It's not a guilty pleasure. It's designed to be a pleasure."
Whether or not My Funny Friend will ever see the light of day remains to be seen, but word has it that should the show ever come to fruition Mayer has a host in mind: former No Reservations personality Anthony Bourdain.
Okay, NOW we're intrigued.
