In spite of the dire financial situation faced by its parent company SFX Entertainment, Electric Zoo organizer, Made Event has announced that it is organizing a one-day festival in China this November of 2016.
Being called Electric Zoo: Countdown Shanghai, organizers will bring the New York City dance music festival brand to China on Nov. 12. It will take place at the Expo Park in Shanghai.
"Following the success of Electric Zoo New York 2016 we felt the perfect next move was to continue the expansion of the festival to new markets. We couldn't have picked a more exciting market - Shanghai, or a better partner - Kanjian," said Adam Richman, SVP of Made Event-New York and Director of Electric Zoo at SFX Entertainment, Inc.
This is only the first iteration of what they hope to be a greater expansion into Asia. Electric Zoo has already put on festivals in Japan and Mexico in the past.
"Electric Zoo Countdown is the perfect introduction of our brand to China and will be the stepping stone to bigger editions of Electric Zoo throughout Asia," notes Richman.
Electric Zoo: Countdown Shanghai is only a preview event for what will be the first official Electric Zoo in China.
The announcement comes on the heels of E Zoo's New York edition, which took place over Labor Day Weekend on Randall's Island. It had its largest attendance since 2013 with 83,000 revelers coming to the festival over three days.
The continued push into Asia matches the ambition of other festival brands like Ultra Music Festival. Made Event is hampered by SFX's continued bankruptcy proceedings, but it appears as though their creditors have allowed for the new festival to go forward.
The stages will mick much of that seen at Electric Zoo: Wild Island in New York City, though there will be custom art and production.
Lineup and ticket information will be released soon.
