Madonna Appears For Jury Duty In Manhattan, Dismissed For Being 'A Distraction To Other Jurors'

Madonna fulfilled her civic responsibilities today when she showed up for jury duty in Manhattan. However, Madge was dismissed from the courthouse after less than two hours after officials concluded that they already had enough potential jurors.

"The greater good here is that her appearance really goes to show that everyone gets called," David Bookstaver, a spokesperson for the court system, told reporters. "The intent here was not to create a distraction to other jurors or the business of the court ... She got credit for her service and we're delighted she came."

According to the Daily News, Madonna had previously dodged a jury summons with a doctor's note on May 27. This time around, she showed up to the courthouse with two male bodyguards and two female assistants.

She was about 30 minutes late for her 10 a.m. scheduled arrival time, they reported. This reportedly angered those "regular prospective jurors" who were asked to arrive at 9 a.m.

"[It] doesn't seem quite right," another prospective juror, Marianna Pita, complained to the New York Post . "Everyone should have to wait in the same line."

Madonna was reported to have said, "I'm proud to do my job," when she was questioned by reporters on the scene about receiving special treatment.

The pop star, 55, is now exempt from jury duty until 2020.
