Earl Sweatshirt had just a few more dates on his docket before he could hit the hay but the emcee took to Twitter to let his fans know that he had pulled out amid a bout of severe exhaustion. That includes a date at the Pemberton Music Festival next weekend in British Columbia. Sweatshirt only played five dates over the last month, but the rest of his summer has been full of festival dates alongside his fellow Odd Future members. Any performer will tell you that festival gigs, no matter how fun, take it out of you more so than regular indoor shows.
We'll let him explain for himself, as he did on a multi-tweet alert to fans yesterday:
"I sincerely apologize to any of y'all who planned to see me at these next couple festival dates. Due to lack of self maintenance .....i had to press eject on the tour. I am physically and mentally at the end of my rope. I weigh a fraction of what I'm supposed to ....and without synergy between the body and mind there is nothing. no point in performing if it's not the best show I can give every time. now that I am home I can get healthy and get this album out to y'all while it's still fresh."
The good news, maybe, is twofold: As Sweatshirt mentioned, he's working on a follow-up to 2013's Doris, one of the best hip-hop drops of the last year. And, for those real desperate to see the rapper one more time this year, he's got another date scheduled at the the FYF Festival in Los Angeles during August. The date is far enough removed from the rest of the dates that it could arguably give him enough time to recover and play. No word yet.
