Garth Brooks has been getting a lot of headlines regarding his forthcoming concert series at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland, and finally the hammer has dropped (please, European country fans, realize that this story is a good news and bad news one. We're just getting the bad news out of the way first). Representatives for Brooks have confirmed that all five of the Croke Park shows have been cancelled.
Trouble emerged last week when the city of Dublin declined to grant permits for two of the shows, which were added after the first three sold out in a short period of time. The problem was that a legal agreement only allowed for three concerts a year at the soccer stadium. The cancellation of the second set of shows was all but guaranteed as of last week, but the failure to produce five shows would also violate the contract Brooks had with promoter Aiken Promotions. Thus the cancellation of the first three shows as well. All in all, more than 400,000 tickets are now moot points.
So what good news could possibly come from that? Brooks' website had held a mysterious "7/7" countdown, obviously ending on July 7, when many theorized that the performer would formally announce an actual tour. The seventh, which was Monday, found the press conference pushed back to Thursday, July 10, probably due to the hubbub regarding the Dublin drama. The "7/7" announcement was due to take place during his stop on Good Morning America, but he still leaked some juicy hints to host Robin Roberts, stating that his gig at the Wynn in Las Vegas was done but he was looking forward to getting back on the road.
