The Libertines have already made the summer for Music Times' Carolyn "Up The Bracket" Menyes, but Carl Barat revealed to NME that this summer's festival appearances won't be the end of the road for the Isles' biggest rock band of the new millennium (sorry Arctic Monkeys. Definitely getting there).
Barat told the music magazine that new music was always the plan for the group, and that it needed to be done before the band hits the road for a more extended tour.
"I don't wanna just go on the road because then you'll get cabin fever and have an epic fallout," he said. "So yeah, I want to keep something fresh coming in. We just need to find the time."
He plans on the group hitting the studio in Hamburg, Germany before the year is out. Pete Doherty seems to be onboard, suggesting that the group will aim to record around October or November.
Could it be possible that the band will get off its current run and head straight for the studio? The band will be wrapping up its current schedule with two early October shows in Germany, one October 4 in Berlin and another the next day in Dusseldorf. That scenario wouldn't do much for the "cabin fever" Barat spoke of, so we'll wager that the studio might wait until November.
The tour seems to be doing alright in terms of the band getting along, but fans may be appreciating the reunion a bit too much, unfortunately. The group's first show, at Hyde Park on July 4, was marred by 38 reported injuries resulting from fans crowding the stage and trampling fellow concertgoers. Eight were hospitalized but fortunately no fatalities occurred.
