Chance the Rapper will be hosting a free show to encourage people to vote in one of the tensest elections in many years. The “Get Out the Vote” show will be held on the rooftop of a Chicago hotel, sponsored by Virgin Hotels Chicago and the rapper’s own nonprofit SocialWorks.
SPIN reports that Chicago performers Taylor Bennett (Chance’s brother), Twin Peaks, Malcolm London and others will also be performing at the event. During the show, SocialWorks members will be taking concertgoers to local polling stations in what will be called a “Parade to the Polls.”
The concert will be held at Virgin Hotels at 203 N. Wabash Ave from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. on this upcoming Monday (Nov. 7). The rapper will begin his performance at 5 P.M.
Chance also released a statement about the concert, writing, “This election is very important, a chance for new leaders and new opportunities to emerge. SocialWorks and I are proud to partner with Virgin Hotels Chicago, Boost Your Voice and The TurboVote Challenge to give everyone a voice in the democratic process and encourage people to vote, both locally and nationally.”
A favorite of President Obama’s, the rapper will also be performing at the White House Xmas Tree Ceremony with Kelly Clarkson. The two will also be joined by gospel legend Yolanda Adams for the National Christmas Tree Lighting event on Dec. 1. Chance’s song “Acid Rain” was also included in Obama’s summer playlist and the family are reportedly fans of his Coloring Book album.
The rapper was also included in a group of music industry professionals who met with Obama this past April for his My Brother’s Keeper initiative. The organization seeks to reform Criminal Justice in the U.S.
