According to some Twitter posts, MGMT are “wanting badly” to release new music and are looking to do so as soon as possible.
MGMT is led by duo Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser, who haven’t released new music in three years. Their last album, MGMT, was released in 2013. MGMT was the follow-up to their first two albums, 2007’s Oracular Spectacular and 2010’s Congratulations.
This past Monday (Nov. 14) MGMT posted to Twitter, writing, “Wanting badly to get you guys new MGMT music asap,” then adding, “Ben and I are old school because we always think about “albums” , LPs, but I mean the times have a-changed.”

It was rumored that the band would be releasing new music this year due to a tweet on Christmas Day 2015 that read, “2016 is the year MGMT re-dominates your mind hole.”
Happy bday jesus . Merry holidays everyone. Happy birthday, everyone: 2016 is the year MGMT re-dominates your mind hole , see you then

But a tweet from Sept. 26 proved otherwise, and read, “Meant to say MGMT re-dominates your mind hole in *2017.”

It has also been rumored that Mac DeMarco would be collaborating with MGMT when he said to SPIN, “[VanWyngarden] lives in the same neighborhood as me, so we’re homies. I don’t know, maybe I should leave it as a mystery. I’m not recording on any MGMT albums, just my own record, but who knows?”
