R. Kelly Readies '12 Nights of Christmas Tour,' Explains Why He Had To Do A Holiday Album

It was only a few short months ago that R.Kelly announced his holiday album, 12 Nights of Christmas and now he's taking the show on the road with a thirteen-city tour.

Leave it to Kellz to switch it from day to night when reimagining the traditional holiday concept and song, "12 Days of Christmas."

With Kelly, instead of receiving two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree on the second day of Christmas, fans in Detroit, Mich. will receive a holiday, two-stepping good time at the kick off of the 12 Nights Of Christmas Tour, beginning Dec. 2 at Fox Theater.

In addition to Detroit, the tour will continue for 12 additional dates and locations, ultimately wrapping up on Feb. 3 at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pa. according to his fan Facebook page.

The 12-track album, released on Oct. 21, is the Chicago native's first holiday album, though he's always wanted to compose one.

"What inspired me to record a Christmas album is the fact that I had never done one in my 29 years of being in the business...," explained Kelly during a video photoshoot. "I've always wanted to do a Christmas album because I love Christmas. It's my favorite time of the year."

A favorite time that often causes Kelly to reflect on years of sentimental moments spent with his mother, and remembering one of the best gifts ever received from her - her love.

With that loving and giving spirit in mind, the 49-year-old decided to bring not one but, two shows to his hometown of Chicago on Dec. 13 and 14; and two shows to Atlanta on Dec. 27 and 28.

He's also created several products to reach and spread his holiday cheer with all of his fans worldwide.

In a bundle package the "Backyard Party" singer is offering his "R.Kelly 12 Nights of Christmas" mugs and sweaters. The items feature a caricature of the soulful Christmas artist wearing a traditional holiday "ugly" sweater.

He definitely covered everything as he mentioned in his interview.

"I'm a very loving person and when I give, I give everything."

Mugs and sweaters just might be sold at an upcoming show near you. Check below for the full list of dates and locations.
