The Weeknd Reveals Reasons Behind Cutting His Hair, Which is Now Locked in a Safe

The Weeknd has revealed the reason behind his surprise haircut, which is now reportedly locked in a safe.

“The vision wasn’t there anymore,” he said to Zane Lowe on Beats 1. “It was there and then just like the music, it was getting really sad. It was the greatest feeling of all time [cutting it off]. It was so good. I could sleep better, I felt lighter, and when I perform, I perform better and feel better, it’s cool. The best part about all of it, I get to wear f*cking hats again. Wear a f*cking cap and walk into a restaurant and nobody knows it’s you, it’s the greatest feeling.”

He went on to explain that the hair is now being held in his manager’s safe. The singer cut his hair prior to releasing his latest album, Starboy.

The Weeknd released Starboy the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 25) and it contained notable hitsI Feel It Coming” and “Party Monster.” The album also featured collaborations with Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, Daft Punk and Future.

Following it’s release, Starboy broke the record for most amount of streams in a single day on Spotify.

Once the news was released, Republic Records Chairman and Co-Founder Monte Lipman said to Billboard, “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforced the tremendous growth of global streaming.”

Spotify’s Global Head of Creator Services Troy Carter echoed his statement, saying, “We’re proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album.”
