Of course, the annual Emmy awards are all about the best of television, but that doesn't mean music doesn't get its time in the spotlight. Today (July 10), the nominees for the 2014 Emmys were announced, and the legendary Beatles are nominated, alongside The Roots and the NBC TV program The Voice.
The Beatles lead music-related nominees for the 50th anniversary special of their American debut The Beatles: The Night That Changed America, which got six nods. The Night That Changed America is up for awards regarding Music Direction, Writing, Lighting Design, Sound Mixing, Direction and the less technical award for Outstanding Variety Special.
In the latter category, The Night That Changed America is facing against AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks, Best of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Primetime Special, Billy Crystal: 700 Sundays, Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles and The Kennedy Center Honors.
Other music-related nominations go to programs The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which heavily features R&B band The Roots as its house band. Singing reality competition The Voice, which features Adam Levine, Usher, Shakira, Blake Shelton and more as its judges is nominated against The Amazing Race, Dancing With the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef and Project Runway for the Outstanding Reality Competition Program award.
Other music-related noms went to the 67th Annual Tony Awards, A Christmas Carol - The Concert, Key & Peele, Saturday Night Live, Sofia The First: The Floating Palace and Sons of Anarchy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
The 2014 Emmy Awards will take place on August 25.
