Mary Sarah may be the new kid on the block but the makings of her forthcoming debut album may just put her in the running with the big dogs.
According to Billboard, Sarah's debut album, Bridges, features duets with legends like Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Merle Haggard on their well-known country songs.
The album also features one of Ray Price's final recordings before he died last year.
Now one may wonder how a newbie could be so fortunate so early on in her career.
She was able to pull it all off after meeting country singer-songwriter Freddy Powers, a close friend of Nelson and Haggard.
Sarah, a Texas native who performed throughout the Texas Opry circuit for years, originally planned to record an album of covers from top Texas-based country singers.
"We took it to a couple people in Nashville and they said, 'I don't think you're thinking big enough,'" Sarah said. "The idea wasn't to have a legends project. ... What it turned into is really crazy and mind-blowing."
The album was released independently on Tuesday.
Sarah says she eventually moved to Nashville, where she met Parton's producer, who later introduced the two singers.
Bridges also features Vince Gill, Tanya Tucker, Ronnie Milsap and Lynn Anderson.
"This project isn't just about me. It's about the legends and bringing this to a newer generation," she said. "I didn't wanna put my face on there. I didn't wanna do anything cheesy."
After two years of recording the album, Sarah now gets to watch her dream blossom right before her very eyes.
The 19-year-old songstress is also gearing up to hit the road. She will be opening for Haggard on his tour starting Aug. 20 in Starkville, Mississippi.
Mary Sarah's debut album Bridges is available on iTunes now.
