Rapper Nelly faces a lawsuit after allegedly raping a woman on his tour bus and defaming her when she shared an account of what happened.
Monique Greene is the one who filed a lawsuit against Nelly, which was first reported by TMZ Wednesday, Dec. 20. She is seeking unspecified damages.
Last week, prosecutors dropped a charge against Nelly for raping Greene while inside a tour bus in October. They were forced to drop the case because Greene had refused to cooperate with authorities due to heightened public scrutiny around her claims.
"People are saying horrible things already. She cannot handle this," Greene's attorney wrote in a letter just a week after the story broke. "She is about to break. She wants to close the door. She wants this to end."
It seems Greene didn't completely break, as she's now launched a lawsuit against the rapper for sexual assault and defamation. The move follows after Nelly, real name Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., had announced that he planned to take legal action against Greene over her claims.
According to documents acquired by TMZ, Greene worked as a host at the Seattle club where Nelly performed on Oct. 6. Greene wasn't working that night, though she was in attendance.
Greene says that after Nelly finished performing the show, she was invited to join him in his tour bus and went down to the rapper's bedroom. Once both of them were there, Nelly started masturbating and sexually assaulting her after she refused to consent.
"This included oral sex and penetrated her with his penis," the lawsuit states.
According to Greene, in addition to telling Nelly no, she attempted to push him away by stating he couldn't have sex with her if he didn't wear a condom, but her attempts to dissuade him were for naught, as Nelly allegedly resumed assaulting her. Afterward, Greene said she was screaming to be let off the bus. Nelly obliged, pushing her off the vehicle. Once outside, he threw a $100 bill at her, saying "bye-bye."
Greene also alleges that Nelly taunted her from the bus as she stood in the parking lot of a Walmart, where she was dropped off. Greene ordered and Uber and also called 911. The cops arrived to interview Greene. Then they arrested Nelly for second-degree rape.
According to Nelly's camp, Greene's lawsuit is financially motivated, and they're planning a countersuit. Karen Koehler, Greene's lawyer, said that Greene only sued the rapper after he publicly started a smear campaign against her, alleging that her story was fabricated.
