Prince Harry Wants To Invite Obamas To Wedding, But Trump Makes UK Government Feel Otherwise

Prince Harry cannot invite his good friend, Barack Obama, to his wedding.

According to reports, the British monarch has been advised not to invite the former president and wife, Michelle, to his wedding next year. The 33-year-old is engaged to Suits actress Meghan Markle and set to marry her on May 19.

Both Harry and Meghan want Barack and Michelle in their wedding, but the government is urging the royal couple to not invite the former first family in fear that it could create conflict to the United Kingdom's relationship with the United States.

"Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it's causing a lot of nervousness," an anonymous source reveals. "Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a Royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the Queen."

Because the wedding is not a state occasion or holiday, the government has no control over the guest list. The royal couple is not obligated to send an invite to Trump and to other foreign dignitaries.

Barack and Michelle did not attend William and Kate's royal wedding when he was president despite their deep friendship with the royal family.

The current U.S. president, Donald Trump, has repeatedly and publicly expressed his dislike of his predecessor. The government fears that Trump will not be pleased if the Obamas get an invitation and the White House does not.

The publication also notes that the royal couple dislikes the new president. Meghan has made negative comments about the businessman-turned-politician in the past.

In an interview in 2016, the actress stated that Trump is "divisive" and "misogynistic."

Harry is also reportedly critical of the U.S. president but in private. Because of protocol, the palace must always remain impartial.

Harry's Friendship With The Obamas

The Prince of Wales has been friends with the former first family for years. Most notably, Harry has collaborated with Michelle for the Invictus Games in Orlando in 2016. For this year's games, Harry and Meghan sat side-by-side with Obama and former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden to watch a basketball game in Toronto.

In October, Harry also flew to the couple's home city, Chicago, to attend the Obama Foundation Summit. In turn, the royal family often hosted Barack, Michelle, and their daughters whenever they visit.

When Harry and Meghan announced their engagement in November, Michelle and Barack sent a sweet message congratulating the couple.
