Elaine Stritch: Broadway Singer, '30 Rock’ Actress Dead At 89 [WATCH]

Known lately as Alec Baldwin's ornery, overbearing mother on NBC's 30 Rock, Elaine Stritch has just passed away at 89-years-old. Reports from the New York Times state that her death was confirmed by friend Julie Keyes.

The actress reportedly died in her home in Birmingham, Michigan, where she just moved last year after famously living for many years at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City.

The actress / singer was known the world over for her wonderfully big personality and iconic appearances on both the stage and screen. With memorable Broadway roles in Stephen Sondheim's Company (1970) and 1955's Bus Stop by William Inge and parts in movies including 1987's September and the 2000 film Small Time Crooks – both Woody Allen projects – Stritch mesmerized audiences both at home and in the crowds until the very end.

She was known for her blunt, no-nonsense type of personality. Perhaps it was this, alongside her immense charisma, that drew in audiences for decades, beginning way back in the 1940s. She rarely, if ever, left the personality aside during her performances. Which only stood as making her all the more memorable in whatever role she chose to take on.

The above video posted on the Times site talks about Stritch's career, starting off with the subject of humor. She can be seen saying, "I don't know what to say about humor except thank God for it. I can change the subject of my life with humor. When it's down, I can change it like that!"

"I pray that I may live expectantly," she says. "To live expectantly, what's gonna happen on Sunday? And Sunday, what's gonna happen on Monday? In the meantime, stay where you f-cking are and enjoy it the best way you know how."
