Star Wars: The Last Jedi Cast Reacts To 'De-Feminized Fanedit' Version Of The Film

Star Wars has its fair share of crazy fans, but rarely are they met with derision from the people behind the film. However, after editing out all the women from the recent Star Wars: The Last Jedi in a cut dubbed The Last Jedi: De-Feminized Fanedit (aka The Chauvinist Cut), this particular fan is unable to escape social media ridicule from some of the film's leading men.

The result of snipping out all the female characters — of which there are many — in favor of an all-male storyline resulted in the fan-made version of The Last Jedi that clocks in at just 46 minutes long. The original movie has an official running time of two hours and 35 minutes.

An All-Male 'Star Wars' Film

Online publication Pedestrian originally reported the fan cut, which was anonymously uploaded on the file-sharing website The Pirate Bay.

"Basically The Last Jedi minus Girlz Powah and other silly stuff," the description of the uploaded video reveals about the edited film.

Some of the changes that the anonymous fan made on the film include completely scrapping out the character of Admiral Holdo (Laura Dern). Instead, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) encounters little resistance from her or General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) throughout the film. Dameron also takes Holdo's place in the big kamikaze mission.

Meanwhile, the rest of the female characters are given very minimal roles with Organa edited so she doesn't go against Dameron. Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) is killed much more quickly, as "women are naturally weaker than men." Rey (Daisy Ridley) is made to be much weaker, while Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) has her role greatly reduced as well.

The anonymous uploader admits that the final cut of the De-Feminized Fanedit isn't perfect both in technical quality and story-wise but also points out that the edited version achieves a more satisfying film.

"But for what it's worth, it can now at least be viewed without feeling nauseaus about most of the terrible big and small decisions they made in this film," he explains in the description. "Also, at least the intro sequence is now very watchable and actually much cooler without all of Leia's nitpicking. Now it's all one united Resistance fighting without inner conflict and that's much more satisfying to watch."

The Last Jedi Team Reacts To Fan-Made 'De-Feminized' Cut

It's not that surprising to find that cutting out roughly half of the film's characters out of the story doesn't sit well with the other cast members of The Last Jedi. They may not agree about every little detail in the latest Star Wars film, but director and writer Rian Johnson, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill, and Finn actor John Boyega all seem to have a united reaction to the no-women version of their movie.

All three men took to social media to share their thoughts on the De-Feminized Fanedit. Johnson went first, quoting a tweet by film writer and critic Priscilla Page and adding a long drawn out laugh at the end.

As soon as Hamill spotted the director's tweet, he added his own series of laughing emojis. Finally, film star Boyega chimed in with his "final points" in similar fashion.

While The Last Jedi has its share of criticisms, the film is generally well-received by critics. It also found box office success, particularly during opening weekend, when it raked in $450 million in domestic and international ticket sales.
