One Direction member Louis Tomlinson has lost his dream in co-owning his favorite sports team. Yesterday (July 17), he announced that his bid to take over the Doncaster Rovers had fallen through.
According to the BBC, The Football League rejected Tomlinson and business partner John Ryan's bid, stating that the pair had not come up with a satisfactory business plan.
"The situation is that the crowd-funder didn't succeed and we are very sorry about that but the real problem is with the Football League," Ryan said in a statement. "They have made it so difficult now that unless you have a bag full of cash you are going to get turned down."
Previously, the two had planned to take over the small team and begin their involvement later this month, thanks in some effort to a crowd funding campaign.
A passionate fan of football, Tomlinson had planned to but the Doncaster Rovers and help lead the club to victories.
The "You and I" singer announced for himself that the deal had fallen through on his official Twitter account and lamented the lost opportunity, saying he was never in it for the cash.
"I'm absolutely gutted the Doncaster Rovers deal is not going ahead. I am desperate for the club to be given the recognition it deserves :(," he tweeted. "I was explicitly told that the deal to buy the club was no dependent on the money raised by Crowdfunding. Unfortunately I was misled... For the record, I insisted contractually I would never earn a penny from DRFC. I simply wanted to help club & community. Still hoping I can."
