David Otunga Tells Ex Jennifer Hudson He Is Employed After Job Remark Amid Custody Battle

The legal battle between singer-actress Jennifer Hudson and her ex-boyfriend David Otunga for their 8-year-old son's custody is a mess.

Earlier this week, representatives from both camps met privately before a judge. Details are being kept under wraps but, according to a new report, Hudson is asking her ex-boyfriend to seek employment and maintain a job diary.

Messy Custody Battle

However, Otunga fired back and said that he does have a job. The former wrestler argued that he is still currently employed by the WWE and, in addition, he is currently working on other entertainment products.

Moreover, he revealed that the Academy Award winner forced him to quit his job about five years ago. Otunga said that Hudson gave him an ultimatum, telling him that he had to choose between his wrestling career or his family.

Otunga, a Harvard graduate, was a lawyer before he became an actor and a professional wrestler. Last November, reports claimed that Otunga was initially signed to provide a coverage of the "Survivor Series," a wrestling pay-per-view event. However, he had to drop out of the gig to focus on the messy custody battle.

In addition, Otunga said that Hudson should not complain about money because the singer is earning between $8 and $13 million from her appearances per season on The Voice. Hudson currently serves as a coach on the popular singing competition on television. He added that while his ex-partner was focused on earning money, he was raising their child.

Hudson's lawyer wants to dismiss Otunga's petition to sanction his former partner for speaking to the press about the legal battle and therefore, violating the gag order.

The Breakup

After 10 years, Hudson and Otunga ended their relationship last November. The singer accused her partner of mental and physical abuse which the former wrestler denied.

Otunga's lawyer said that their camp has been trying to negotiate peacefully but Hudson's camp filed an order to gain an unfair advantage.

"At no time did Mr. Otunga 'physically push' Ms. Hudson as she has alleged," his representative stated.

Hudson was granted an order of protection against Otunga, which she later withdrew after he was forced to move out of the home they shared.

The case also revealed that the relationship between the celebrity couple started to deteriorate back in April. The two, since then, have been sleeping in separate rooms.

Hudson and Otunga got engaged in 2009 and welcomed their son, David Otunga Jr., in 2009.
