Elton John recently recounted the conversation he had with Prince Harry. The 33-year-old prince told the singer that he is "in love."
John and Prince Harry talked to each other last summer. At that time, the prince was already dating Meghan Markle. The "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" singer said that Princess Diana's youngest son did not share intimate details about his relationship with Markle, but he was very happy to be with the former Suits star.
The 70-year-old singer also said that Prince William appeared to be very happy with his marriage to Kate Middleton. The couple tied the knot in 2011, and they have been blessed with two children. Their third child is expected to arrive sometime in April.
"And that's all you want people to be, no matter who they are," said John.
During his interview on the U.K. show Lorraine, John also talked about his "great friend" Princess Diana. John and Princess Diana had a falling out, but their issues were resolved just weeks before she passed away. John sang "Candle In the Wind" at Princess Diana's funeral on Sept. 6, 1997.
John wrote the song in 1973 as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. After Princess Diana's death, John asked songwriter Bernie Taupin to tweak the lyrics to honor the late princess. John only performed the song once at Princess Diana's funeral. Whenever he sings "Candle In The Wind" at his concerts, he uses the original version.
"She was very much loved. She was a controversial figure in some respects, but not to me. I loved her because she did so much for AIDS and she was a great friend to me," said the singer.
John and Princess Diana patched things up following their good friend Gianni Versace's death on July 15, 1997. The princess called John on the phone and told him that their friend has been assassinated. Six weeks later, John was also at home when he found out that Princess Diana died in a car crash.
Other than talking about Princess Diana and his two sons, John also opened up about his final global tour from the same interview. He said that he will be retiring after he completes his final performances in different parts of the world. During his retirement, John intends to focus more on his health and his relationship with his longtime partner David Furnish.
