At the 2018 Grammy Awards, Miley Cyrus and Elton John took the stage to sing the 1972 single "Tiny Dancer" off John's Madman Across the Water.
Per usual, John sat at his lavish, suave Yamaha piano, but this time there's a white rose at the top to signify his support for the Time's Up movement. Both were all smiles as they crooned a beautiful rendition of the hit single, with Cyrus adding a hint of Southern vocal flavor to the song.
John, clad in a glittery jacket, and Miley, in her off-shoulder ball gown presumably from renowned designer Zac Posen, graced a crowd of A-list celebrities and musicians with the sweeping pop ballad, their voices adding up to a fine, richly layered melding of John's twangy vocals and Cyrus's signature raspy style. It's a rock-meets-country update on John's classic hit, which was certified Platinum in 2011.
John is set to be the subject of a Grammy salute on Jan. 30. He and his longtime writing partner, Bernie Taupin, will receive the Recording Academy President's Merit Award. John recently opened up about the special as well, revealing that Cyrus is also set to perform at the tribute concert.
"I love Miley. I just asked her if she'd do [the duet] with me and she said yes and she's going to be on the TV special as well," said John. "The great thing about the Grammys is that backstage you meet people you haven't met before and it's great when you hang out. It's very cool to meet these kinds of people you don't normally meet, so I'm really looking forward to that."
The British pop-rock icon and LGBTQ advocate recently made a groundbreaking announcement when he said he would be retiring from touring following a three-year world tour that commences this coming September. He said that his two young sons, Zachary and Elijah, are too important for him to continue playing over 100 shows a year in different places across the globe.
Cyrus's most recent project was Younger Now, released in 2017 following the controversial and polarizing Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz in 2015, and the well-received Bangerz in 2013, which saw Cyrus firmly shedding off her Hannah Montana persona to grow and explore her individuality.
Among the other artists who took the stage during the 2018 Grammy Awards include Childish Gambino, SZA, P!nk, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Sting, Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee.
