The first winner of The Four has just been crowned. After six weeks on air, relative newcomer Evvie McKinney was named as iHeartRadio's On the Verge artist.
McKinney joined The Four last week, and she managed to dethrone Kendyle Paige. This week, the singer faced off with Zhavia and ultimately won. As the winner of The Four, McKinney will also sign a deal under Republic Records.
Evvie McKinney Talks About Her Future Plans
Following her win, the 20-year-old singer shared her plans for the future. McKinney said that she has no intentions to just sing on stage. Rather, she wants to perform and make people happy.
"I love the way people smile when they watch me perform. I love when people are saying they got chills. I love that and I know that even when you are experienced, when you are watching someone onstage that inspires you, whether you believe it or not, it inspires you - and, honestly, that is all I want to do," said McKinney.
Zhavia Fails To Impress The Judges
The final episode for The Four was a bit different from the first five episodes of the hit Fox reality TV competition. In the previous weeks, the studio audiences were the ones who voted for a particular contestant. In the finale, judges Meghan Trainor, DJ Khaled, and Sean "Diddy" Combs" picked McKinney over Zhavia, Candice Boyd, and Vincint Cannady.
Prior to the announcement of this season's winner, all four contestants first performed one song. The studio audiences chose McKinney as the winner of round one. McKinney's win in the first round gave her the opportunity to choose which contestant she will go head to head within round two. McKinney chose Zhavia.
After round two, McKinney and Boyd were named as winners, and they faced off in round three. The judges ultimately decided to give the title to McKinney. Prior to her win, there were speculations suggesting that Zhavia will be the winner of The Four season one. The 16-year-old became an instant fan favorite after she sung Khalid's hit song "Location" during her audition.
Zhavia was booted off from the competition in week four, but she managed to return as a comeback artist. Despite her loss, Zhavia told her fans that she is grateful to them for all of their love and support.
The Four has just been renewed by Fox for a second season. The new episodes will premiere next year.
