M.I.A.'s headlining set at the Lovebox Festival in London turned out to be rather rough, partially due to the performer's own actions but largely due to technical malfunctions.
She complained throughout her set of not being able to hear her own beats onstage; the crowd seemed to be content with what it was hearing down on the field, but this isn't an indication that the stage monitors were necessarily working correctly. At several points throughout the night the vocalist gestured at technicians offstage and even walked over to lodge complaints with representatives at the side of the stage.
That's a pain, but M.I.A.'s final frustrations were of her own doing. The performer invited the first few rows of fans to come up onstage during the performance of her single "Double Bubble Trouble," an offer that the crowd graciously accepted. However, the singer quickly became annoyed with her new stage-mates, and chided them for getting in her way. At the peak of her irritation the sound cut out and the video screens went black. The crowd booed as M.I.A. left the stage and the rest of her fans were herded back into the mob. No indication was given whether the cutout was another technical glitch or if organizers decided that the performer was pushing her luck by inviting the crowd on stage.
Either way, she reappeared for an encore to soothe the displeased concertgoers, performing her hits "Paper Planes" and "Bad Boys." As she left the stage however she was seen tossing her microphone away in frustration.
OTHER BRITISH FESTIVAL NEWS
Lily Allen took heat from disgruntled Two Door Cinema Club fans who were displeased to find out she would be replacing their choice band on the lineup at the Latitude festival. She responded by covering the band's "Something Good Can Work."
