John Legend is all set for the broadcast of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. NBC has released a video of the singer during rehearsals.
The "All of You" singer-songwriter's involvement in the upcoming production was first revealed last December, and it is scheduled to air in over a month. However, Legend, and his costar Sara Bareilles of Waitress on Broadway are already hard at work preparing for their performance.
Easter Special
The video embedded below was shared by NBC on YouTube. It features a first look at the 39-year-old as Jesus Christ. In this clip, the father of one belts out a song with Harvey Mason Jr. at the piano.
Jesus Christ Superstar is based on the final moments of Jesus Christ before his execution. The NBC production will air live from the Marcy Armory in Williamsburg in Brooklyn on Easter Sunday, April 1, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. It will also star Alice Cooper as King Herod, Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas, Ben Daniels as Pontius Pilate, Norm Lewis as Caiaphas, Jin Ha as Annas, Jason Tam as Peter, and Erik Gronwall as Simon Zealotes. It will be helmed by British theater director David Leveaux.
On Friday, Feb. 23, NBC also released a poster of the upcoming musical production with Legend as Jesus Christ.
"It's such an ancient story, but I think the genius of the original was that it brought the story of the current time of when it was written, and I think we're going to try to make it feel like it's timeless [and] also current," said the singer/actor.
Legend also serves as a producer of the anticipated production.
"We're gonna try and make it like it's a rock concert to some extent," he added. "It's gonna be a show."
