Wu-Tang rapper, U-God, dishes on the real reason behind the group's breakup. His detailed story is featured in his memoir.
An excerpt from RAW: My Journey Into the Wu-Tang revealed that an "all for one" mentality is what disintegrated the group.
"Right now, it just looks like the Wu brothers are not on the same page, going at each other's throats, missing shows, and all that. But, to me, it's really years of BS catching up to RZA. See, he puts his family in charge of s***, and for years, we would go on the road but the money came up short," wrote U-God.
Wu-Tang Did Not Support Members' Solo Careers?
The 47-year-old American rapper also said that Wu-Tang failed to support the solo albums of its members. He added that the group fought about money and royalties nonstop, and this divided them further.
U-God said that his brothers, Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa, managed to release their solo albums, and the project contained some of their best hits. However, since they did not have a huge budget like the other members of Wu-Tang, their compilations were gravely affected.
U-God Questions Wu-Tang's Live Performances
The rapper is also upset over the fact that Wu-Tang never performed its new materials on stage. The group members typically stuck with their classic tracks.
He said that he saw this as a backward mindset. U-God added that if the group wanted their fans to support them, they should have first supported themselves.
U-God also reiterated that the Wu-Tang brothers are not on the same page at the moment. However, the rapper also said that at the end of the day, they try their best to work things out.
He also wondered why the group was never placed at an A-list agency. He said that they were typically linked to lesser-known agencies throughout the span of their career.
