Lil Xan pays tribute to Tupac by singing one of his songs "California Love." The rapper from California is seemingly doing some damage control.
He previously called Tupac "boring," and he faced a backlash from the rapper's fans and friends. Following his comment, Lil Xan deleted some of his posts on Instagram, and he also went on a short hiatus on social media.
Weeks later, he clarified that he did not mean any harm. In fact, he thinks that Tupac is a legend.
"But for real, I gotta say something. The media twisted my words: I think 2Pac is a legend. 2Pac is definitely a legend. That's what's up. 2Pac a legend, they just twist your words and they want you to hate me. Positivity over everything," said Lil Xan.
Tupac's Friends Slam Lil Xan
Following his controversial statement, Tupac's friends, Waka Flocka and Rich Homie Quan, came to his defense. The former banned Xan from hip-hop and the latter called him the "wackest rapper in the game."
Some critics did not like how Lil Xan tried to do damage control during his show. On Twitter, some of them made fun of the rapper.
One critic said that Xan should have left the issue alone. Another critic wondered why it was necessary for Xan to sing Tupac's song if he thinks the latter's track is "boring."
Who Is Lil Xan?
Lil Xan or Diego Leanos is an American rapper of Mexican descent from Redlands, California. He is best known for his breakout hit "Betrayed," which landed at no. 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Prior to making it big in the music industry, Lil Xan released some of his songs on SoundCloud and YouTube. Following the release of Total Xanarchy last year, Lil Xan announced that he is going on a tour. The tickets for his shows were sold out within five hours.
The rapper's stage name was derived from the drug Xanax. Earlier this year, he announced that he will be changing his stage name to Diego in order to support his anti-drug message. Later on, he said that he is still unsure whether or not he will actually change it.
Some of Lil Xan's songs include "Xanarchy," "Wake Up," "Slingshot," "Far," "No Love," "Who Are You," "Inxanity," "Been Bout It," "Vicodin," "Xan Man," "F*** My Teachers," "Montana Doe," "Crash the Whip," "Sorry," and "Center Fold."
