Taylor Swift might have sneakily given fans an update on her relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn in her cover of "September" for Spotify.
Anniversary
This week, the 28-year-old singer-songwriter recorded a rendition of Earth, Wind and Fire's 1971 classic as an exclusive release on the online music streaming platform. While some criticized the performance, her fans immediately noticed a tiny but significant change in the song's lyrics.
Accompanied by a banjo, Swift sang "Do you remember / The 28th night of September?" For the uninitiated, the original lyrics of the song goes "21st night of September."
The Grammy-winning singer is known for leaving Easter eggs in each of her work. Now, fans believe that the lyric change is a reference to a special moment from her relationship with Alwyn.
MTV notes that the press release for the performance claims that Swift chose the song for "sentimental reasons." Fans speculate that Sept. 28 is the exact date when the romance between Swift and Alwyn started. The duo reportedly started dating back in 2016.
It is not the first time Swift worked with Spotify, the platform she once criticized for unfairly paying artists and for its controversial free tier. She also recorded a more personal and vertical video for "Delicate" for the streaming site.

Taylor Swift's 'End Game'
It means Swift and Alwyn have been dating for a year and six months now. Swift, who once had a reputation of changing boyfriends every few months, has finally found a long-term bliss with the British actor.
"Their relationship is very different from Taylor's past ones," a source told People back in November. "They much prefer having dinner parties at home with friends than going out. Just like Taylor, Joe is a homebody. He loves being an actor but doesn't like the celebrity part of it. It's pretty special to find someone you're on the same page with."
The unnamed insider added that everyone around the singer wants the relationship to last.
Swift too thinks that Alwyn is the one. The "Look What You Made Me Do" singer is ready to settle down, according to another source.
"Taylor really believes Joe is the one for her," Us Weekly reported. "She wants to get engaged to him. She just doesn't feel as though she has to impress anyone at this point."
