Farm Aid will be traveling to Raleigh, NC to the Walnut Creek Amphitheater and you can probably guess a handful of the headliners right off the bat: Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Dave Matthews and John Mellencamp. Those four are members of the Farm Aid board so they traditionally make appearances at the yearly festival, but there are some big names outside of the board that will show up as well. Jack White for one.
Young and White have been hitting it off as of late, so it's not exactly surprising that the Detroit guitarist will be joining up with the Farm Aid crew. Young cut his newest release A Letter Home at White's Third Man Records earlier in 2014.
The board recognized that Carolina farming means more than just tobacco.
"In North Carolina and across the Southeast, family farmers have struggled to stay on the land, but they have also pioneered new roads to economic sustainability," Nelson said. "This region knows the value of its farmers and offers increasing opportunities for new farmers to build a strong regional food system. On the Farm Aid stage Saturday, September 13, we'll celebrate family farmers and the healthy communities they're growing for all of us."
Other acts that will perform include the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Jamey Johnson, Delta Rae, Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real, Carlene Carter, Pegi Young & The Survivors, and Insects vs Robots.
Last year's event, which took place in Saratoga Springs in New York, featured the last live performance from folk icon Pete Seeger.
