After her surprise appearance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Michelle Williams, a former member of R&B girl group, Destiny's Child, reveals that she is engaged.
The singer shared the good news on Instagram on Thursday, April 19. She attached a photo of herself with her now fiancé, Chad Johnson.
Williams shared that her husband-to-be proposed back in March during their vacation in California. Johnson, 41 years old, got on one knee and presented his celebrity girlfriend with a massive 5-carat rock from Denis Mahgerefteh.
Michelle Williams Is The One
In an interview with People, Johnson, who is a pastor and a pro sports chaplain, revealed that he has been saving up for the ring since he was 30 years old.
"On my 30th birthday, everybody came and celebrated me. The next day, I woke up alone. I was so lonely. I had a little pity party," he shared. "My personal life was lacking so much, and I was living so single. So as a response to that moment, I opened up a ring account, and for 11 years, I put $150 into a ring account."
He admitted that he almost withdrew the money from the fund to use it for something else. He said he wanted to buy a sports car, but knew he would eventually meet the one.
Johnson met Johnson in March 2017 at a spiritual retreat where he was the pastor and she was an attendee. The Huffington Post noted that, around the time, the singer was going through a horrible breakup from a boyfriend she discovered was cheating on her via social media.
After the retreat, Williams and Johnson have kept in touch and they made their relationship public in July. Then, he started shopping for a ring a few months ago.
"There's so much in that ring," he stated. "hat's 11 years of my belief in my wife coming for me."
Meeting Her Friends
In another interview, Williams admitted that Johnson already met her Destiny's Child bandmates and friends Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland. She said she had not talked about the relationship until she and Johnson went public with their romance.
Queen Bey and husband Jay-Z met Williams's beau back in September.
The news of the engagement came on the heels of the short but successful reunion of Destiny's Child at Coachella 2018. Williams and Rowland appeared onstage to support this year's headliner, Beyonce.
The trio performed their hit songs "Say My Name," "Lose My Breath," and "Soldier."
