Funk Legend George Clinton Would Retire From Touring In May 2019

George Clinton announces his impending retirement from touring. The funk legend said that his last show will take place in May 2019.

Fans are convinced that his decision to retire has something to do with his recent pacemaker surgery. However, Rolling Stone said that the procedure is not the reason why he desires to permanently rest from touring.

"This has been coming a long time. Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I've been out front less and less," said Clinton.

George Clinton To Retire, But P-Funk Continues

The 76-year-old singer and songwriter also confirmed that his P-Funk brand will continue to play music and headline shows even after his retirement.

"Truth be told, it's never really been about me. It's always been about the music and the band. That's the real P-Funk legacy. They'll be funkin' long after I stop," said Clinton.

Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic still have over 50 shows scheduled for the remainder of 2018. P-Funk is also scheduled to drop Medicaid Fraud Dog album, which will be its first in 40 years. In January, the group dropped its first single "I'm Gon Make U Sick O' Me."

George Clinton Talks About His Death

Last year, Clinton already hinted at his retirement, but he discussed it by sharing what he wants to happen after his death. He said that he already made a hologram with the whole band, and he wants to give it to his family after he dies.

When asked what he wants people to say about him after he is long gone, Clinton said that he wants fans to say that he made them sick, but he gave them the antidote that they needed.
