Meek Mill's criminal past, his unfair imprisonment, and his eventual freedom will be documented in an upcoming series produced by Amazon and Roc Nation.
Meek Mill's Story
The still-untitled project is expected to premiere in 2019. Jay-Z will serve as an executive producer of the series under the banner Roc Nation. Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman of Intellectual Property Corp., journalist Paul Solotaroff, and documentarist Isaac Solotaroff will also be involved.
The six-part docu-series promises to provide access to Mill's personal life, his career, and his battle against the unfair and dated criminal justice system that kept him in shackles for a long time. It will also detail his release that aims to reflect the "negative effects long tail probation is having on urban communities of color," reported The Hollywood Reporter.
Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, was sentenced to imprisonment for two to four years last November for violating a decade-old probation. The decision was met with outrage from fellow celebrities, fans, and people from his hometown of Philadelphia.
Amazon detailed that Mill's supporters will also play a part in the docu-series as they join hands to uncover the corruption involved in the rapper's case.
"I'm grateful for this unique opportunity to share my story, and I look forward to collaborating with Amazon Prime Video, Roc Nation and the Intellectual Property Corporation on this incredible series," said Mill in a statement. "Not only will this documentary give viewers an unprecedented look at my life, but it will also allow me to use my public platform to highlight the need for criminal justice reform."
Each episode will feature different kinds of traumas that the hip-hop star had to endure throughout his life — from the childhood traumas that shaped his music to the corruption behind his imprisonment.
"We're thrilled to be working with such a talented group of producers to bring Meek's life story to light," said Heather Schuster of Amazon's unscripted department. "Meek's story of being incarcerated needs to be told and we will have incredible access that takes Prime members beyond the headlines and into his world."
The docu-series will also feature original music from Mill.
The "Dreams & Nightmares" rapper was released on bail on April 24 after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered his release. In a statement on Thursday, May 3, Mill said that the battle continues because he is still not a free man.
"I'm nervous everyday being on probation," he explained.
