Marsha Ambrosius Debuts On Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums With 'Friends & Lovers'

Marsha Ambrosius has claimed her second win with the follow-up to 2011's Late Nights & Early Mornings.

According to Billboard, Ambrosius took the Hot Shot Debut on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums at No. 2 with her sophomore set Friends & Lovers.

Nielsen SoundScan says the album moved 17,000 units in the week ending July 20.

The English singer-songwriter also steps 15-14 on Adult R&B with album cut "Run" scaling to 550 spins at the format (a 6 percent rise), according to Nielsen BDS.

"Run" also reached a new peak on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, climbing from no. 48 to no. 44.

The former songstress of the neo-soul group Floetry recently opened up about her latest release with TheGrio.

Ambrosius told the site she sees Friends & Lovers as a sequel to her 2011 debut.

She says she's had many relationships, long-term and short, that have developed since her debut released.

"Late Nights & Early Mornings was the beginning of anything loving and exciting," Ambrosius explained. "Now we get to see where Friends & Lovers intersects."

While discussing her album and creative process, Ambrosius noted honesty is key.

The "Far Away" singer says her writing style, like her love life, is very honest. She believes that honesty allows her to write about her feelings and emotions associated with heartbreak and sex almost effortlessly.

"It's easier for me to write about lust versus love," she said. "It's a Leo thing, I guess."

The album also features guest spots by Dr. Dre, Charlie Wilson and Skye and Lindsey Stirling.

"Stronger," "Run," and "So Good" have all been released as singles prior to the album release. "So Good" was also included on the Fvck & Love EP, which served as an intermission between Late Nights & Early Mornings and Friends & Lovers.

Marsha Ambrosius' Friends & Lovers is available now on iTunes.
