The Weeknd shares that he had an entirely different album made while dating Selena Gomez. If they had not split, he would not have released My Dear Melancholy.
During his recent interview, The Weeknd initially refused to talk about his past relationships. He said that he recorded his latest album was his way of closing a chapter in his life.
However, the singer did reveal that a more upbeat album was supposed to be released in March.
"Prior to Melancholy, I had a whole album written, done. Which wasn't melancholy at all because it was a different time in my life," said The Weeknd.
Unfortunately for his fans, The Weeknd said that they will never hear his unreleased his album. After all, the singer said he does not like performing something that he does not feel.
The Weeknd Works Hard On 'My Dear Melancholy'
Prior to the release of My Dear Melancholy, a source told US Weekly that the Canadian native has been working nonstop on his six-track EP.
"He's been in the studio pretty much nonstop, especially the past few months after his breakup with Selena Gomez," said the source.

The Weeknd and Gomez split last year. Weeks later, Gomez opened up about their decision to go their separate ways. She said that even though she is no longer dating The Weeknd, they have remained best friends.
Gomez and The Weeknd's split was reportedly due to Justin Bieber. The 13 Reasons Why producer started hanging out with Bieber again following her kidney transplant.
Several months later, it seemed that The Weeknd has moved on from Gomez. He was recently spotted kissing his ex-girlfriend and rumored current flame, Bella Hadid, at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
The Weeknd's Comic Book Series
In related news, The Weeknd will soon unveil his first comic book The Weeknd Presents: Starboy. The printed animation serves as his collaboration with Marvel. The comic book follows the story of Starboy and Jack "The Chef" Smiley." The comic book will be available on June 13.
More comic books under the Starboy series will also be released in the coming months.

Moreover, The Weeknd will drop a wide range of Starboy-themed merchandise for fans to collect on Friday, May 18. The collection includes t-shirts, long-sleeved tops, baseball cap, and more.
Prices for the items have not yet been revealed, although, all these will be up for sale at The Weeknd's store on Friday.
