Hype Machine's Bands to Watch: Zella Day, Broods, Marika Hackman and More

Pretentious music writers (like us) are always telling you what artists you should be keeping an eye on. Or, more narcissistically, we're just trying to say "we heard it first" by predicting a band will become a smash. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a more scientific method of predicting what band will break through in the near future?

That's what Hype Machine is for. The site combs over 815 music blogs that have been deemed "quality" and keeps track of what they're writing about, thus theoretically creating a safe list of what performers are closest to bubbling over. At the end of every year the site releases a list of the most blogged-about acts and its been pretty successful thus far. Last year's most buzzed about group was Disclosure (now a massive success) and 2012's was Grimes, another winner. Thus far in 2014, Banks has been the go-to performer. We checked out all three acts at Governors Ball this year and have to say that Hype Machine/bloggers are pretty on point.

With all that in mind, the site has released a list of 20 acts that are poised to start grabbing big-time attention during 2014. This isn't an official list of most-referenced, but more of an introduction to acts that will be filling those festival spots by this time next year. These acts have all appeared on the "most blogged" lists but haven't released a full album yet.
