Is Dave Grohl OK? Fans fear that the voice of the Foo Fighters frontman might have taken a permanent damage.
The concerns seem to stem from the current North American and European tour of the renowned rock band. A handful of fans have pointed out online that the 49-year-old is not sounding right in a lot of their recent shows.
Fans Express Concern Over Dave Grohl's Voice
I was at the Antwerp gig last night, and I thought the state of Dave's voice was kind of worrying," reported a fan on Reddit via NME. "[T]owards the final third, it began cutting out entirely."
Grohl and the Foo Fighters have been on their Concrete and Gold Tour since October last year and they still have shows scheduled until Oct. 18. In between concerts, the former drummer of Nirvana also performs in different events, including a recent charity event where he took the stage with his daughters, Violet and Harper.
The rock icon losing his voice might simply be because of the exhaustion of moving from one city to another and performing almost every night. However, fans argued that he seems to be having more bad days recently.
"As great as the show was, it's fair to say that the set is now geared around preservation — from the sharing of vocal duties with Taylor & Chris, to the drum solo break, to the extended instrumentals of all the major hits," one fan wrote. "He's even toned down the screaming now (unless the song calls for it), opting for a 'woooo!' instead."
Another Reddit user said they were surprised that Grohl's voice held on for as long as it did. They pointed out that the beloved performer is a smoker. Screaming onstage almost every night might have also added to the strain.n>
Some attribute the change in his voice to Grohl's age. They argued that, maybe, Foo Fighters should stop doing back-to-back shows. As of this writing, Grohl has not responded to the conversation around his voice.
Foo Fighters' 'The Line' Enters Top 10 Of Mainstream Rock Songs
Foo Fighters, however, continues to be at the top of the game over a decade after it was formed. Billboard reports that the rock band recently scored their 25th Mainstream Rock Songs Top 10 with "The Line," a track from their 2017 album Concrete and Gold.
Right now, the band has the third most number of hits that made it to the Top 10 of the songs chart. They trail behind Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which have 28 songs and Van Halen, which has 26. However, the band has more Top 10 hits on the chart compared to Aerosmith (24), Metallica (23), and Pearl Jame (22).
Foo Fighters will return to California later this year to perform at the 2018 Cal Jam.
