Coldplay "will try to fix" a terminally ill British fan who needs help. According to Billboard, the band has donated £10,000 (about $17,000) to Jody Duff, who is suffering from a motor neurone disease, a progressive neurological condition that has confined him to a wheelchair.
Through his JustGiving page, Duff has been raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association UK (MDNA) and is hoping to get a total of £25,000 (more than $42,000). After catching the attention of Coldplay, the longtime fan's fundraiser got a big boost.
After donating, the band urged other fans to give to the cause in a tweet with Duff's photo.
According to U.K. tabloid the Mirror, Duff had gone to a Coldplay concert the week before. What he didn't know was that his friend had written the band to tell them about Duff's struggle with the disease.
"Chris [Martin] was genuinely interested in learning about motor neurone disease," Duff told the Mirror, who published a photo of him with Coldplay.
The band invited Duff back to a second concert the next day, where Martin ended the show by dedicating "Fix You" to him.
Martin told the crowd, "We just want to send him, from us and from all of you, as much love as we possibly can."
